While not exhaustive, the main health insurance coverage taken out by Canadians is:

Critical illness insurance

When taking out critical illness insurance, the eligible person will receive a lump sum payment as soon as a diagnosis of the illness covered by the health insurance policy is confirmed. The lump sum payment will be made in a single payment as soon as the prescriber’s request is submitted and evaluated, it is not taxable and will not require any reason or proof of expenditure. Its use remains at your own discretion.

Many of the most serious illnesses affecting Canadians are covered by a health insurance policy, you can define the number of serious illnesses you want to cover as well as who is eligible.

Call your insurance broker to advise you to choose your critical illness insurance according to your needs.

Long-term care insurance

According to the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA), by 2036, 25% of the population will be over the age of 65 and nearly one million Canadians will suffer from dementia.

In addition, and regardless of your age, you may for some reason no longer be able to take care of yourself for your daily activities.

As long-term care is not covered by the public health system, the public health system covers a very small portion of the costs of care at home or in specialized facilities, the rest of the costs will be borne by you.

By purchasing long-term care insurance, you will be able to cover the costs of long-term care and thus protect yourself from unnecessary financial difficulties.

Disability and Salary Insurance

If you are an employee and do not benefit from disability and group pay insurance, if you are an entrepreneur or if you are self-employed, disability and salary insurance allows you to cover your monthly income for a predefined amount and period of time when you are unable to work due to illness or accident.

By calculating the monthly lump sum amount to be collected if you are unable to work, you can also cover the repayment of your loans or the repayment of your rent.

Each disability insurance policy and salary defines a lump sum ceiling to be paid to the beneficiary. Benefits received through disability and salary coverage are not taxable.
